The Panamint Indians lived in the Death Valley region, near the Kawaiisu, Tubatulabal and Mono Paute. They wove baskets similar in design to their neighbors the Kawaiisu and the Tubatulabal. All three of these tribes are renowned for their basket-making skills.

This Panamint basket has a very clean, traditional design. Starting with a plain center, the weaver added elements of stacked flies (the cross design), followed by a wide rattlesnake design band. She then finished with classic "ticking" on the rim. It i woven on a rod foundation with 2 grass stems.
