This female Sioux doll is from the early Reservation period. She is primarily constructed out of buffalo hide, which obviously became increasingly scarce by this period. She is decorated with indigo, white, and greasy yellow beads.

Dolls were made both for children to play with and also to sell or trade to tourists who came West on the railroads during this period.

This doll is tall and has a simple charm. Note the facial features are indicated by simple beading, which is very effective, and the doll has a pleasing smile on her face.
