The Great Lakes Native Americans were influenced by the French nuns in their beadwork designs and forms. The bifarcated design reflects that influence. Please also note the wonderful movement of the floral elements.
It is rare to find a buffalo hide backing to a bag such as this. More often the bags are backed in trade cloth. This fact, along with the early beads, implies an earlier rather than later age for this bag.
