William Spratling was one of the major forces in the Arts Renaissance in Taxco that occured after the end of the Mexican Revolution. He was already renowned in North America as an architect when he moved to Mexico in 1929, having worked in California and then New Orleans.

He went on to found Taller de Las Delicias, employing outstanding silversmiths to produce his designs. Many of these silversmiths went on to design and produce their own silver jewelry in ensuing years.
