Russell Sanchez is a preeminent Pueblo potter who builds on tradition by incorporating non-traditional materials and by innovating creative designs into his pottery. This particular pot uses tan, sienna and micacious rust slips for decoration. The bear medallions are encircled by a row of heishi. Sanchez deliberately shows sienna through the tan in places, reflecting a modernist sensibility.
