Archaeologists at the University of Northern Arizona argue that Tonto polychrome pottery incorporates red slip into the design on the exterior of pottery. The black slip is applied on top of white kaolin slip. (http://www.musnaz.org/cfim/RooseveltRedWare/Tonto%20Polychrome/TPIndex.shtml)

This jar is quite beautiful and in remarkable condition. Found on private land, it was sold by Cameron Trading Post in 2003 to a Private Collection, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Cameron Trading Post.
