Barbara Gonzales is the oldest great grandchild of Maria and Julian Martinez. Barbara worked with Maria and Barbara's grandmother Santana Martinez in learning pottery making. She developed into an outstanding and well-recognized artist in her own right, utilizing sgraffito, inlaid stones, and firing that enabled two-color designs. She also developed a style that incorporates spiders into the design as representative of good luck.

This pot illustrates all of these designs and techniques. It is beautifully made and has survived the years in excellent condition.
