This jar was undoubtably made by Martina Vigil and Florentino Montoya, well-known and terrific potters in San
Ildefonso. Along with Florentino's niece Dolorita Vigil, these potters produced exquisite pottery at San Ildefonso during this early period. They are often grouped as master potters with Maria and Julian Martinez who worked at San Ildefonso during the same time.
Beginning in 1920s, pottery from San Ildefonso went over to the black-on-black style. Polychrome pieces from the earlier period are much more rare.
