The Zuni made beautiful and intricate using mosaic stones for hundreds of years but they began to work in silver after learning it from the Navajos in the 1870s. They began to refine their work with fine lapidary (stone-cutting) work during the 1920s and their work developed significantly in the 1870s. There seems to have been a big leap in quality of their stone work in the 1930s.
