This bracelet is an early William Spratling-designed bracelet from Taxco, Mexico. Spratling was an architect who made his way to Taxco in 1929, where he establisihed his Taller (workshop), Taller de Las Delicias. This particular bracelet was made between 1940-1944. It includes his SPRATLING SILVER hallmark as well as the round hallmark from that period.

Spratling silver jewelry was recognized internationally and it made its way into collections throughout the United States, Mexico, South America and Europe. 980 silver is very pure (pure silver being 1.0). The higher the grade of silver, the harder it is to work. As time went on, alloys were added to the silver in order to make it easier to produce but the alloys tarnish more quickly that purer silver.
