Exhibited at “Burst of Brilliance” at the Ross Gallery, U of PA, in 1994. Joe Ben Wheat, the authoritative scholar on Navajo textiles, wrote about this textile in the catalog
Please note that each shift in color, including the variegated shades, was deliberately laid in by the weaver. It was not variegated wool like people can buy today. The weaver took a tremendous amount of time weaving this textile and she is clearly reacting to the opportunity to use vivid colors in the wool she was able to acquire from a trader, who clearly respected her weaving and artistry skill in making these wools available to her.
