This Karok jar is exceedingly rare, given its form, size, and great condition. The Karok (Karuk) Indians live in Northern California, , with ancestral and current territories centered along the middle course of the Klamath River and Salmon River in northwestern California (Humboldt and Siskiyou counties).

Few of their baskets have yellow quill. This weave clearly was an experienced and respected weaver.
