The Navajo have a long tradition of making jewelry in the form of butterflies. When one thinks of butterflies, one thinks of joy, freedom, and transformation from larvae to adult form. This particular pin evokes all those thoughts. It was likely made in the 1940s. The design is proportional and the work is fine.
