The railroads arrived in the Southwest in 1880, which opened up an era of vigorous trade between the Southwest and other areas of the country. Pueblo and Hopi artists began making pottery that would appeal to the tourists who came flocking to see them. This pottery duck has a lot of charm and it would have appealed to the visitors. Moreover, its size was easy to transport back home. It has survived the years in excellent condition.
